our story (so far!)...

Magpie Makes is all about making creative learning fun for kids.

It was launched by Kerry Greene in May 2014 from a local nursery with a spare classroom, and as word spread so did the popularity of the workshops.

Kerry is a Graphic Designer and busy mum with two kids who felt that there just weren't enough inspiring creative activities out there for them. She says “What we really wanted was someone to give us some fun ideas, all the things we needed and a place to create them. When your kids ask you for pipe-cleaners and glitter when you're just about to make dinner, it's not always possible...”

So Magpie Makes was begun.

As Magpie Makes grew so did the team, and Suzie Richardson joined as a partner in the business in Summer 2015. Kerry and Suzie gave up their jobs and put all their energy and passion into growing the business and bringing creative experiences to as many kids as possible. The team is now 16 people strong and growing and we’re always on the look out for other passionate creative souls to come and join us.

When I set up Magpie Makes I was working as a graphic designer and juggling the demands of a young family along with client deadlines. My design career gave me the chance to work with some of the UK's favourite brands, such as McVities, Boots, Sainsbury's and GSK. A highlight was helping my brother with the launch of his own brand, Salty Dog crisps. Now I bring my creativity and ideas into a new role – designing all the art and sewing projects for our clubs and workshops. The children are wonderfully receptive to all the ideas I throw at them and I love it!

For me, Magpie is all about the children – I love working with them and have thoroughly enjoyed the last 10 years in which I have done so. Supporting children of different ages, with different needs has given me a wealth of experience to bring to our clubs. Being part of the Magpie team is a real joy – our superb team of creative and empowering ladies, the amazing relationships we build with our customers and the pride I feel at giving children the chance to express themselves creatively in what is an incredibly stressful world for them. It never feels like 'work'.
